Yin Yoga is a slow paced class, where poses are held for extended periods. The focus of practice is to calm the nervous system, bring the body back into balance whilst also helping to regenerate hard tissues (bones, ligaments, joints)on a cellular level.
This is taught in a variable anatomy style, which means there will be options for all bodies and capabilities. Items such as rolled blankets and cushions can be used as props and can actually enhance the poses. An experienced Yin Yogi will always wisely make use of props ?
There is a target area for each pose and students will be encouraged to find the ‘sweet spot’ in each posture.
Students are encouraged to listen to their bodies, ease out of postures early if necessary and only go to about 90 percent of their edge. Nothing should be forced or pushed. Yin is non muscular so the muscles can stay relaxed throughout. There can be strong sensation, however this should feel good in the body; there should be no pain. Afterwards the body should feel lighter and more open.
Practicing Yin Yoga regularly can enhance wellbeing, flexibility, mobility and longevity.
Please discuss any health issues or injuries with your teacher at the beginning of class and bring a mat, blanket and a cushion or two to make your practice as comfortable as possible. And don’t forget your water bottle.
Please also complete the health questionnaire and bring it with you to the first session if you haven't done one previously.
See you on the mat!
