This course is suitable for students who have learned Hiragana & Katakana and have a
knowledge of very basic Kanji. Also, the class is recommended for students who already
learned expressions of time, date and verbs in everyday life, etc. For the example;
「nichiyōbi no asa kuji ni kaimono ni ikimasu」(I go shopping at 9 o’clock on Sunday
morning). We use the textbook “MARUGOTO Starter A1 activities” in the class and studied
up to Lesson13 in the textbook.

During the course you will learn to:

• Understand and use familiar everyday expressions and basic phrases, aimed at the
satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.
• Ask and answer simple questions in areas on familiar topics like daily events,
asking for directions, how to use public transportation.
• practice making a short speech about yourself.
• learn very basic kanji more.
• learn knowledge about Japanese culture.
• Understand basic verbs more on daily events and how to use basic particle.

The course is centred around conversation practice. We also will welcome you if you
would like to brush up your speaking ability after you have learnt for a year around.

I was born and brought up in the Kansai region of Japan but have spent most of my adult life overseas. I have nearly 20 years’ experience in teaching Japanese as a foreign language.
