Why does modern life often feel uncertain, fast-moving and emotionally demanding?
Why do questions of identity, belonging and mental wellbeing seem more central
than ever before? And how did we come to think about ourselves in the ways we do
today?

This discussion-led course explores the major ideas and social changes that shaped
the modern world: from the rise of reason and individualism to psychology,
technology and contemporary culture.

Along the way, we will examine how changing ideas about truth, identity and human
nature continue to influence everyday life, relationships, politics and society.

This course combines history, psychology, sociology and philosophy. It is designed
for curious adults learners. No prior knowledge is required, just an interest in
understanding ourselves and the world around us.
