The class, with only very few exceptions, is conducted in German and gives students the opportunity to study and discuss a range of topics and genres, both in spoken and written form. News items from TV and other visual media are used regularly to inform about and discuss current affairs, social and cultural issues to widen understanding and awareness of German speaking societies.

The course will concentrate on the following:

· Recognising and using the main features of grammar with confidence.

· Verbally expressing yourselves spontaneously and fluently, formulating your opinions, thoughts and views clearly.

· Reading texts and listening to audio-visual materials in the German language to identify and discuss general and specific information, ideas and opinions from different types of sources (eg. newspaper articles, short story, extract from a novel, film material, video clips).

· Writing effectively in the target language for a range of purposes (eg. factual writing, giving your opinion on a particular topic).
