This course will be held in the beautiful English country garden of Prospect House in Burton Leonard.  The garden contains a cutting patch, trained fruit trees, shrub borders, herbaceous borders and a new woodland area. The course will use these facilities to demonstrate techniques and skills used to maintain and enhance the garden.

The course will take place using both the potting shed classroom and the 1 acre garden as our workshop.  Students will have an opportunity to have hands on practise at core gardening skills, while learning the principles of design and good horticultural techniques.  Given the vagaries of the British weather we ask that you bring warm clothes and a pair of good gardening gloves.

We will be covering the following topics

Discussing garden styles and plot survey

Analysing soil conditions: discussing habitats for right plant, right place

Maintenance requirements: pruning, training, weeding, pest care, mulching

Seasonal plants and cut flower gardens

Propagating: seeds. Cuttings, division to maintain the health of plants

Georgina Bordewich

Georgina has worked as a gardener and horticulturalist in a wide variety of garden styles and sizes. This has included working as head gardener in the regeneration of a 6 acre historical garden, as well as redesigning and maintaining small and medium size outdoor spaces. A niche area she has worked on recently has been designing and planting borders for weddings and seasonal celebrations. Georgina has taken her Level 3 Certificate with the RHS in Practical Horticulture and very much enjoys working with clients to educate them in the ongoing maintenance of their gardens. She has 3 young children and an allotment to fill in any spare time.
