life class Summer 24

Start date: 5th Nov 2025

Time: 19:00 - 21:00

Cost: £126

Day: Wednesday

Duration: 6 weeks

Tutor: Martin Kerrison

Course code: 25AU085

Learn to draw and paint the human figure. Work form a life model, developing skills to create convincing representations of the human figure. The human form has fascinated artists for thousands of years and the course engages with this tradition, also introducing the work of contemporary and historical artists. This course leads on directly from ‘Drawing and Painting for Beginners’ and is particularly suitable for those new to working from the human figure or those looking for tuition in life drawing. Experienced students may take part in taught activities or use the sessions to develop their life drawing with as much or as little tutorial input as they wish. In addition to adults, the course is open to 6th formers and for A Level students it helps build portfolios for examination and college/university entrance.

Martin Kerrison

I am an artist and educator, having extensive experience as a senior school and adult education teacher. I teach drawing, painting, life and portraiture classes to all ages and abilities, exploring a wide range of materials and approaches. I believe art benefits all and everyone has creative potential.
My art practice focusses on figurative and magical realist painting and I have exhibited widely, most notably at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions in 2022, 2020 and 2015.
Graduating from Northumbria University with a degree in Fine Art, I took a PGCE at Oxford and an MA in History of Art at the University of London. I taught art for many years in the London area, working as a Teacher of Art and Art History, Adult Education Tutor and Head of Art and Photography, before relocating to Yorkshire in 2021.
When not at the easel or in the classroom, I can often be found enjoying countryside walks, historic buildings, singing in local groups or playing cricket.
