Day: Friday

Duration: 1 weeks

Bring your lunch.

This day can be stand alone or you can develop your work on a second day which must be purchased separately on the website.

(This day can be stand alone, or as a follow on for anyone wanting to continue from yesterday).

This is an opportunity to do some studies from life with a group of like minded artists, and enjoy the outdoors. We’re so lucky with a wealth of subject matter in Harrogate’s Pinewoods.  Please bring your own materials, at least a sketchbook, pencil & pen. If you’re all set up, bring some form of colour, be it portable water colour, coloured pencils for ease, or maybe charcoal for example. But honestly, just a drawing pen and simple sketchbook can be enough to have a very satisfying day where we study detail, or capture a feeling, say some lively movement and texture in the trees that attract you. It’s also an opportunity to draw some impressive perspectives, having such tall pines to sit among! I will pass from student to student throughout the day, giving guidance & encouragement. We’ll vary location within the Pinewoods, keeping fairly close together, so that I can attend to all equally. Do bring lunch, a portable stool or chair is recommended, and feel free to take breaks as you feel inclined. We will be close to facilities at Harlow Carr around lunch time. Should we have inclement weather we will stick to the areas of great tree cover and pop on our waterproofs! Let’s never let a little drizzle stifle creativity. Meeting point is in the car park at the council nurseries on Nursery Lane at 10.20. I hope to see you there!

Katharine Ruddock

Qualifying with a BA Hons from Edinburgh College of Art, and Post Graduate Diploma from The London College of Furniture, my initial working life involved developing design & business skills at an interiors company in London. Later, self employment had me fulfilling creative briefs in illustration, small business logos, and occasional portrait drawing. Concurrently, commissions for domestic interiors grew, and over 23 years I built a successful interior design & decoration business, based largely in London.
More recently, a long held desire to concentrate on my own creative ideas had me return North, progressing my art and sculpture activities. Currently represented at a small gallery in the North East, fulfilling private commissions, and thrilled to be building this new chapter.
It’s exciting being part of Rossett Adult Learning - a really happy piece of life’s creative jigsaw - a lovely opportunity to share in artistic enthusiasm, and such a pleasure… meeting my students!
