Beginners Russian
This course is for learners who want to start to learn phrases in their target language. During this course, a range of activities will be used to introduce basic language skills. Learners will learn phrases to introduce themselves, have short conversations, identify objects and people around, orient themselves, express basic opinions and describe objects, give directions.
Benefits
Learners will participate in class activities using reading, listening, writing and, more importantly, speaking skills. This short course will help learners gain confidence in their learning skills and prepare them to keep on learning Russian.
Previous knowledge
No previous knowledge of the target language is required, just the willingness to learn (and probably make plenty of mistakes along the way!)

Course contents
Topic 1: Introducing yourself and introducing the Russian Alphabet
This topic will give learners the skills, knowledge and understanding to introduce themselves with a foreign colleague, friend or host. Learners will be introduced to vocabulary and resources to introduce themselves and ask others to do the same, to identify objects and people around.
Topic 2: Phone conversation
This topic will give learners skills, knowledge and understanding to produce basic phone conversations with relevant vocabulary and useful phrases.
Topic 3: The weather
This topic will give learners the skills, knowledge and understanding to talk about the weather using basic vocabulary.
Topic 4: Locations and places.
This topic will give learners basic skills, knowledge and understanding to communicate and request information about where places or things are. The topic includes vocabulary and useful phrases to visit public places and how to get by in a city of the foreign country.
Topic 5: Professions and family
This topic will give learners skills, knowledge and understanding to describe somebody’s or their profession and families. The topic introduces useful vocabulary and phrases to describe roles and relationships.
Topic 6: Shopping
This topic will give learners the skills, knowledge and understanding to deal with some aspects of going shopping in a foreign country. This includes prices, enquiring about and buying items, expressing opinions. Learners will also study other useful phrases and language which may be needed in a shopping situation.
Topic 7: Food
This topic will give learners basic skills, knowledge and understanding to deal with some situations that may arise when eating out in a foreign country. The topics covered will ensure that learners are able to identify food from a menu, express preferences and ask for prices.
Topic 8: Describing our town and/or city
This theme will give learners skills, knowledge and understanding to talk about their town and other places. It will introduce useful vocabulary and consolidate the ability to describe things and give or express opinions, ask for the location of places.
Topic 9: A usual day
This topic will give learners basic skills, knowledge and understanding to talk about things they do during a day. It will introduce useful vocabulary and the ability to describe actions.
Topic 10: Hobbies and languages
This topic will give learners basic skills, knowledge and understanding to talk about their hobbies and languages they know, learn or speak. It will introduce useful vocabulary and the ability to describe actions and express opinions.
