Pilates – Flexibility & strength Pilates aims to improve your flexibility as well as your posture & balance.
If you take part in a session regularly, it will increase your muscle strength and tone.
Pilates is an all over body-conditioning exercise, used to develop complete co-ordination of mind & body. By targeting the deep postural muscles, Pilates helps to protect and stabilize the spine, helping to correct misalignment and reduce aches & pains.
Pilates aims to focus on breathing techniques by where you inhale in through the nose and exhale out through the mouth. The breath is used to give the muscles energy to exercise well. You work on managing the level of oxygen coming into your body and travelling to the muscles to help them become more relaxed.
Pilates can support anyone who exercises help the body to develop strength and flex, which in time can lessen the chances of injury.
Pilates can also help to alleviate stress and tension.
Pilates is for everyone, regardless of age, fitness level, body type or ability. If you're completely new to Pilates, don't let that put you off. All exercises can be modified or progressed to suit your fitness goals/ability - that's the true beauty of it.
By the end of the course students should
• Demonstrate improved posture and core strength.
• Experience greater flexibility
• Have a feeling of improved overall wellbeing.
This course is low impact, but please check with your GP before starting if you are unsure about its suitability.
