It aims to introduce the layout of the piano keyboard, musical notation and some of the more common signs and symbols used in written music. Students will learn to read music written in treble and bass clefs, and play melodies limited to the range of a 5-finger hand position. 2-handed interaction may also be covered.
Topics will also include interpreting time signatures, pulse and rhythms, and sharps, flats and naturals.
By the end of the course, students should be able to play a repertoire of pieces, and be ready to progress to improver level if they wish. Students will need to have access to a home piano or keyboard for each class.

Required: Book: The Classic Piano Course Book 1 (or omnibus edition) by Carol Barratt; Notebook; Pencil and rubber. PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK UNTIL WE CONFIRM THAT THE COURSE IS GOING AHEAD. IT CAN BE BOUGHT ONLINE FOR AS LITTLE AS £2 SECONDHAND ON AMAZON.
