Students who wish to learn how to use Word’s creative tools in order to develop their skills in producing a variety of documents incorporating design techniques eg posters, leaflets, flyers. Many of the skills learned will
also be transferrable to Excel, Powerpoint and Publisher. Teaching and learning also focuses on developing a thorough understanding of how the software functions to avoid errors. Elements of Desk top publishing and Graphic Design will also be introduced.
For the first session students will need:
A memory stick if students wish to save their work. All Handouts provided.
The course aims to:
Develop Creative skills using Word in order to produce leaflets, posters, and flyers.
The course will cover:
Students will be shown how to use the creative tools in Word to create a variety of different documents. Word will be used as an alternative to Microsoft Publisher. Work produced will include A5 multiple-page booklets, posters, leaflets, newsletters in columns and these will all include graphics/enhancements produced by the student and/or imported from other software. Students will learn to apply a variety of formatting techniques and use many Word shortcuts
By the end of the course students should be able to:
Insert, reposition and format Text boxes
Add background watermarks and Apply Wordart
Add page colour and add creative borders
Create columns and use different layout techniques
Insert and manipulate Picture files, Clipart and Shapes and Smartart
Use Tables to layout documents
Insert Headers & Footers and use the space for repeated text/pictures/art work
Insert prepared text from Word’s insert/objects
Apply Bullets and numbering and change the format
Work with and apply Styles.
Other topics will be included according to students’ needs.
