This course is for;
Any skill level from complete beginners.
We will be making basic handmade books suitable for sketchbooks, travel scrapbooks or journalling.

For the first session students will need;
All materials will be provided. We will be using white paper, and adding colours for the covers.

You may like to bring an apron or wear older clothes.

The course aims to teach:

All techniques from cutting, folding, working out pagination. How to put pages together and sewing techniques. Materials to use to make your own books at home. Marbling techniques. How to personalize your own books.

You may like to bring any interesting papers you have collected from old music scores, maps, paintings that you wish to recycle, postcards, tissue paper, wrapping paper, paper bags or plain brown paper is lovely.

The course will cover:

To teach you how to fold paper to make a concertina or an accordian style of book.
You will learn how to fold paper to make a three hole pamphlet
You will learn the stab stitch to join your pages together
You will learn how to make signatures and make hand sewn sections, which when put together will form your book
You will learn how to colour paper to make a marbled effect front and back cover to use as a hard cover for your book.

By the end of the course students:
Will have made an accordian book with a soft paper cover and a hard cover book with a hand marbled cover
