This course is suitable for students who already learned more than a year and mastered Hiragana and Katakana.

During the course you will learn to:

  • Understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment).
  • Communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters.
  • Describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.
  • Read and write basic Kanji.
  • Introduce Japanese culture, e.g. weather, typical family style.
  • Understand grammar with verb conversion.

The course is centered around conversation practice. We also will welcome you if you would like to brush up your speaking ability after you learnt Japanese for self-studying for more than a year.

Mizumi Nango

I was born and brought up in the Kansai region of Japan but have spent most of my adult life overseas. I have nearly 20 years’ experience in teaching Japanese as a foreign language. I have held posts in language institutions across the world including China, Taiwan, Singapore and the UK, teaching Japanese at all levels, to students of different nationalities.
