Group Piano - Improvers

This course is for; students who have previously attended the Rossett Group Piano course, or have some experience of playing the piano and basic knowledge of musical notation and theory. (It is not appropriate for students who have passed Grade 4 or higher in the examinations of the Associated Board.)
For the first session students will need;
*Pencil & Rubber
*The Classic Piano Course Omnibus Edition by Carol Barratt.
*ABRSM Piano Grade 1 Scales and Broken Chords.
*Chester’s Piano Duets Volume 1 by Carol Barratt.
*For additional repertoire: Making The Grade: The Complete Beginner Course.
Students are expected to have access to a home piano or keyboard and to practice the pieces and exercises covered in each class.
Additional Costs; Other music books as necessary.
For students playing on keyboards, it is advisable to bring headphones with adaptor plugs.
The course will cover
Week 1: Exercises: The scale, arpeggio and broken chord of C major
Week 2: The key of G major and key signatures using sharps. Duets.
Week 3: The key of F major and key signatures using flats. Duets.
Week 4: The cycle of fifths: Interrelationship of keys.
Week 5: Minor keys: Scales of A and D minor. Duets.
Week 6: Summary of rhythmic notation and sight-reading.
Week 7: Dynamics in music. Sight-reading.
Week 8: Selection of duets for individual practice.
Week 9: Duets (continued).
Week 10: Discussion of further repertoire for individual practice over the break.
By the end of the course students should be able to play an extended repertoire of piano music and at a higher standard than they demonstrated at the beginning of the course. They will also develop their personal confidence in playing before other students.
