Aimed at students who have attended the beginner/improver online course over the summer term, or students who have previously attended piano classes at Rossett school. It is assumed that students will already be familiar with reading music and will be able to play hands together.


Topics covered will include major scales and arpeggios, moving hand positions and more complex types of hands together interaction at the keyboard. Elements of music theory will also be covered.


By the end of the course, students should be able to play an extended repertoire of piano music and at a higher standard. Students will need to have access to a piano or keyboard for each class, and will require the following materials: Books: The Classic Piano Course Omnibus edition by Carol Barratt; ABRSM Piano Grade 1 Scales and Broken Chords (Purple book for syllabus from 2009); Notebook; Pencil & rubber. IF YOU DON'T ALREADY HAVE THIS BOOK PLEASE PURCHASE IT ONCE WE HAVE CONFIRMED THAT THIS CLASS IS GOING AHEAD

Alec Robinson

Alec Robinson is a full-time piano tutor, music educator and performing musician. A graduate of both The University of York and Leeds College of Music, he runs a business providing tuition for piano students in the Yorkshire area, and in this capacity mentors individuals across a wide range of musical levels and abilities, from beginners to degree-entry level. He also runs group classes for piano in the Leeds area, and regularly performs as a soloist and in various ensembles in music venues across the UK.
