The course will look at the reasons behind France wanting to become a colonial power. 

It will consider why certain regions of the world were chosen as targets for invasion by the French. 

The course will also look at the effect colonialism has had over the centuries in the colonies and in France.  Arcadia, Indochina, The Middle East, Polynesia , South and Central America and the Maghreb will be studied in more detail.  Finally,  the course will address the present situation and will look to the future.
