Pastels are fast becoming as popular as watercolours and these classes will appeal to all artists wanting to know more about the subject.

The course will cover the basic materials and equipment required and comprehensive techniques to become a competent pastel artist.

The course is suitable for anyone interested in developing their own artistic and creative skills.

Beginners are welcome.

Pastels are versatile, brilliantly coloured and immediate – enjoy!

Materials are provided but if you would like to bring any of your own you are welcome. We will be using:-

 Course Programme: 

Students will be guided week by week through different aspects of pastel techniques which should give confidence to beginners and more advanced students.  Examples of artists’ works and styles will be shown at each session.

Week 1

An introduction to pastels (soft, hard and oil pastels) – papers and card, mixing pastels, line making and sgraffito.

Week 2

Experimenting on card and papers, blending techniques, tinting your paper, building up pastels.

Week 3

Putting into practise the above techniques producing a pastel landscape.

Week 4

Producing a still life or nature study drawing.

Week 5

Pastel drawing of your own choice from your own design or photograph or continuation of unfinished projects.

 At the end of the course students should be capable of feeling confident that they have found a new medium with creative potential.

Terry

Terry Kellett

Terry graduated with a Fine Art degree from Leeds College of Art, and afterwards taught Sculpture at Pudsey College. He then entered the commercial world as Creative Director working in several advertising agencies.

He is a professional artist, he has several solo exhibitions in the Anstey Gallery, and also takes on private commissions. Terry has exhibited at the Patchings Exhibition, Royal Horticultural Society, Saltaire Gallery, and Mall Galleries London.

Terry has been an art teacher at Rossett School for over 10 years and also teaches Watercolours and Life Drawing.
