Charcoal Drawings for beginners and improvers

We shall be using charcoal to create tonal drawings on a variety of scales using different techniques.

Making marks, smudging, using erasers to create negative space. Additive drawings, subtractive drawings, change of scale. Composition. Continuous line drawings.

This is intended to be a fun course where we describe a variety of different objects and forms using charcoal. Using these scenes and arrangements we shall use charcoal to describe the different surfaces we find.

Please wear old or dark clothing, as you may get a bit messy. It does wash off though, so it’s nothing to worry about!

We will be providing everyone with their own kit of equipment to avoid sharing of materials , and we will be social distancing.

Topics will include:

eyes, mouth, nose, ear

holding treasures

draped and folded

lights in the darkness

Into the unknown

Contained and spilled
